Who Moved The Stone?

Some years ago, a lawyer by the name of Frank Morison wrote a book with the title Who Moved The Stone? He set out with the purpose of disproving the resurrection, of proving that Christ did not really rise from the grave.

But the book turned out to be entirely different. It is a searching study of the scriptural story of Christ’s crucifixion, death and resurrection. He makes the unquestionable point that the resurrection is a historical fact. The Empty Tomb had a message for the disciples as it has for us.
It says to science and philosophy, “Explain this event.”
It says to history, “Repeat this event.”
It says to time, “Blot out this event’.”
It says to faith, “Believe this event.”

News & Announcements

1. We welcome Elder (Dr) Chin Hoong Chor to our pulpit again today, as he continues with the second part of his message from last Sunday.

2. This is the Holy Week beginning with Palm Sunday today and leading to Good Friday and culminating in Easter (Resurrection) Sunday. We encourage members who desire to observe a time of deeper reverence, meditation and personal worship (wherever they may be) to join in a day fast on Wednesday (19 March), and to break fast together in Church at 7:15pm with a light supper. That will be followed at 8.00 pm by the special Central Prayer Meeting where Rev Robert Chew will also explain Covenantal Theology, the doctrine of God’s provision for mankind’s salvation. Others who do not fast that day are also welcome to join the supper and/or the Central Prayer Meeting separately, and we encourage everyone to come.

3. For those who are new to fasting but desire to make a start, they may try out a partial fast first - e.g. by eating a much reduced portion (one-quarter, one-third, or half) of the usual amount for the meals, or eating breakfast but skipping lunch. A full fast entails abstaining from all food. In both cases, one may drink plain water from time to time when needed. Through all this, up to the breaking of the fast, meditate on the Cross and what the Lord has done for you, giving thanks and praying for cleansing and grace to walk worthily of Him, and any other matters as the Spirit lays on your heart.

4. Worship the Lord on solemn Good Friday at the Vesper Service at 7.30pm as we meditate on the Lord’s atonement for sin on the Cross. The Lord’s Supper will be observed.

5. Worship the Lord and celebrate the Resurrection at our combined English-Mandarin Sunrise Service at 6.30 am on Easter Sunday, and join in the church breakfast after that. Rising to the Occasion
You cannot do anything for your salvation, but you must do something to manifest it, you must work out what God has worked in.

God allows the difficulties to come in order to see if you can vault over them properly - “By my God have I leaped over a wall.” (Ps 18:29). God will never shield you from any of the requirements of a son or daughter of His. Peter says, “Think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you” (1 Peter 4:12). Rise to the occasion; do the thing...it gives God the chance to manifest Himself in your mortal flesh.

May God not find the whine in us...but may He find us full of spiritual pluck and athleticism, ready to face anything He brings.

- Oswald Chambers

Too Many churchgoers are singing
“Standing on the Promises”
when all they are doing is sitting on the premises.

A lazy boy went with his mother to pick blueberries in an orchard. He brought along the smallest pail he could find, and while others were busily picking berries he was just playing, chasing butterflies and watching the birds and squirrels. When it was time to go home, he hurriedly filled his little pail with a lot of moss at the bottom and topped it with a layer of berries.

Next morning his mother baked pies, and she made a special saucer-sized pie just for him. Blackberry pie was his favourite and he could hardly wait for it to cool as he saw the plump berries oozing through a slit in the crust. But when he finally sank his teeth into the pie…he bit through the crust into a whole lot of moss!

Many people want to experience the fullness of God’s promises in their lives, but they are unwilling to do the work that goes along with most of the Bible’s promises. Most of God’s promises are “if-then” statements….if we do one thing, then God will do another. And our part nearly always comes first!

That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Hebrews 6:12

He serves with a youth organization which also takes him abroad on regular mission visits, and is a regular speaker at various churches.

LIFE’S SEASONS

When we are young, we can’t wait to grow up. When we are old, we look back longingly to former days. But God intends that we joyfully take each season of life as it comes. Whatever our age, He imparts what we need to be all that we can be. He asks us to commit our way to Him and accept the struggles He allows and the strength He provides.

Are you in life’s springtime? Trust God’s timing to fulfil your dreams. Are you in life’s summer or autumn? Face your daily challenges head-on. And if you feel winter’s chill, draw close to the Lord. His presence can make every season of life one of strength and beauty.

Cutting the Rope that Ties You Down

A friend was talking about a man who had cheated her out of her parents’ inheritance. Even though he had since died, she still harboured bitterness toward the man who wronged her greatly. In recent years she has come into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Not long ago, she said, “I’ve allowed that man to chase me from his grave. The only way I can be free is to forgive him.” She’s right.

The irony of bitterness is that it ties us emotionally to the very person we’re bitter towards. It’s like trying to run full speed in a 3-legged race. You can’t run like you need to run until you cut the rope that ties you to the person who wronged you. And that can only be done by doing what seems unthinkable - forgiving that person. Until you do, you keep thinking about them, replaying the tapes of how you were wronged, or dwelling on your wounds. Someone has wisely said, “Bitterness is a poison drink you make for someone else and wind up drinking it yourself”.

When you forgive the one who has wronged you, you cut the rope and set two people free.

Gospel In Miniature
Luther called John 3:16 “the heart of the Bible - the Gospel in miniature.”It’s so simple a child can understand it; yet it condenses the deep and marvelous truths of redemption into these few pungent words:

“God” ...................................The greatest Lover
“So loved” ...........................The greatest degree
“The world” ........................The greatest number
“That He gave” ..................The greatest act
“His only begotten Son” ....The greatest Gift
“That whosoever” ..............The greatest invitation
“Believeth” ..........................The greatest simplicity
“In Him” ..............................The greatest Person
“Should not perish” ...........The greatest deliverance
“But” ...................................The greatest differrence
“Have” ................................The greatest certainty
“Everlasting Life” .............The greatest possession

I Love Thy Word, O God

I love Thy Word, O God:
Its pages brightly shine,
A beacon light along the road
That leads to truth divine.

I love Thy Word, O God:
For comfort freely given;
For inner peace that keeps my soul,
And gives me thoughts of heaven.

I love Thy Word, O God:
For songs of purest joy,
That fill this pilgrim heart of mine,
And lips of praise employ.

I love Thy word, O God:
That tells me of Thy Son;
Of His redemption on the cross
For needy sinners won.

I love Thy Word, O God:
It ne’er shall pass away,
Till earth’s dark night of sin shall turn
To God’s own perfect day.

When To Be Alarmed

If you find yourself...
¨ coveting any pleasure more than your prayer times,
¨ enjoying a book more than your Bible
¨ reading the newspapers for relaxation more than the Bible or some spiritual book,
¨ reverencing any house more than the House of God,
¨ satisfied with any table more than the Lord’s Table,
¨ loving any person more than that of the Holy Spirit,
¨ or delighted with any prospect more than that of the return of Jesus,
¨ THEN TAKE ALARM !!!
