Reflection on Romans 12:2

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,
that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

Paul exhorts us to not only present our bodies unto holiness as a spiritual act of service to God in the previous verse (Rom 12:1), our behaviour should reflect that too by not following the world’s system of thinking, values and beliefs.

We are told in Eph 4:22-24 to put off your old self,… to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,  and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”

This change to be more like Christ comes by the renewing of our minds through the consistent exposure to God’s Word through sermons, group and personal Bible study. There are no shortcuts, no magical formula for renewing our minds. The renewed mind is one saturated with and controlled by the Word of God. Only then can the perfect will of God be discerned and acted upon.

Are we adapted to the world or attached to Christ and His ways? Are our lives being changed from the truth of God’s word?
